By means of a density functional treatment and a slab model for the density profile of the fluid, explicit corrections to the classical macroscopic formulae for the pressure at which capillary condensation occurs and for capillary rise are derived. The corrections involve a multiple of the thickness of the wetting film whose value is related directly to the exponent characterizing the algebraic decay of the attractive wall—fluid potential. For a given undersaturation, wetting films are thicker in capillaries than at single walls.

Abstract
By means of a density functional treatment and a slab model for the density profile of the fluid, explicit corrections to the classical macroscopic formulae for the pressure at which capillary condensation occurs and for capillary rise are derived. The corrections involve a multiple of the thickness of the wetting film whose value is related directly to the exponent characterizing the algebraic decay of the attractive wall—fluid potential. For a given undersaturation, wetting films are thicker in capillaries than at single walls.File in questo prodotto:
