Adrenal gland ultrasonography is a very useful tool for diagnosis of endocrine diseases in small animal practice. In equine medicine it has previously not been used as a routine investigation because of the absence of technique. Additionally there was a lack of knowledge about the physiological sonographic appearance of the adrenal glands. In this paper illustration of normal ultrasonographic appearance was documented. Measurements in length, height and width were possible in trotters up to a hight of 150 cm. Sonographic visualization is limited by body hight. Further studies on diagnosing pathological size and structure of the adrenal gland are possible on the grounds of this paper.
