In this communication we describe QTris, a board game that replicates most of the conceptual and mathematical structure of quantum mechanics. By playing the game, players will effectively learn all the rules of quantum mechanics and how to apply them. The game was developed by one of the authors (AH) as part of the Italian initiative National Quantum Science and Technology Institute (NQSTI) and is currently offered in teacher professional development courses. The game takes a modern perspective on quantum mechanics and its structure, especially due to cards representing possible operations on qubits, and is naturally linked to technological applications such as quantum computing. QTris can be seen as the basis of a standalone proposal to introduce quantum physics and quantum technology or can be seamlessly integrated within existing two-state approaches to teaching quantum mechanics.
