The construction of monumental portals in the Sardinian countryside is a phenomenon limited to a period between the seventeenth and nineteenth centuries. It is also linked to a specific geographical context that covers some areas of northern Sardinia (Sassari and Alghero) and especially Oristano’s fertile Campidano plains, the area where this survey was carried out. The study aims to identify and briefly outline the main architectural typologies, the techniques used in their construction and the most serious problems of degradation. Finally, the article will highlight the targeted restoration, conservation and enhancement work that is urgently needed to deal not only with this particular kind of architectural degradation, but also with that of the individual sites and of the landscape in which these portals are such a key feature. The project applies all the principles of sustainability, with the morphological, typological, technological, plant and environmental study, with reference to GBC Historical Building certification.

Abstract
The project applies all the principles of sustainability, with the morphological, typological, technological, plant and environmental study, with reference to GBC Historical Building certification.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
