Surface pyodermas, represented by the pyoderma of the folds, acute wet dermatitis and bacterial overgrowth syndrome, are skin bacterial infections located on the surface of the epidermis. These surface infections advance themselves to a topical disinfectant treatment, both due to the fact that they are caused by an excessive bacterial proliferation that occurs on the skin surface, without colonization of the deeper layers, and because they are localized conditions. Because of the increasingly widespread phenomenon of antibiotic resistance and the need to have effective controls for the treatment of such infections, the objective of the present study was to evaluate the tolerability and clinical effi cacy of a cutaneous spray based on chlorhexidine, allantoin and alpha-bisabolol, in the topical treatment of dog surface pyodermas. 32 dogs with surface pyodermas were enrolled and divided into two groups: one group was treated with the skin spray under examination, while the other group was administered orally cephalexin. The effi cacy of the treatment was evaluated by applying an assessment score to appearance and odour of the lesion and to the entity of pruritus. The results obtained confi rmed the clinical effi cacy of topical therapy with the chlorhexidine, allantoin and alpha-bisabolol sprays in the treatment of dog surface pyodermas.

Abstract
The results obtained confi rmed the clinical effi cacy of topical therapy with the chlorhexidine, allantoin and alpha-bisabolol sprays in the treatment of dog surface pyodermas.File | Dimensione | Formato | |
