The aim to revamp the colonial economy, that was possible only developing the plantation system, pushed the Spanish Crown during the XVIII Century to increase the flow of slave workers from Africa to the colonies. This, in particular, was made through the concession of the “asiento de negros”, for the first time in history, to a totally Spanish subject, the Compañia Gaditana. The prevision of an increase of black population in colonies made necessary the development of first Spanish organic rules concerning slavery, the Cόdigos Negros.
