The parameter estimation is a crucial problem frequently encountered in computational systems biology. This topic can be faced under different point of view, that is considering its computational or semantic features. Here we consider the semantic aspect of parameter estimation presenting the problem formalization using knowledge representation techniques, like SKOS (Simple Knowledge Organization System). The system has been implemented using the SKOS editor tool ThManager which is useful to structure a detailed data model related to parameter estimation. This formalization allows the unambiguous definition of the parameter estimation problem. Furthermore in this way the systems biology knowledge becomes machine understandable.

Abstract
The parameter estimation is a crucial problem frequently encountered in computational systems biology. This topic can be faced under different point of view, that is considering its computational or semantic features. Here we consider the semantic aspect of parameter estimation presenting the problem formalization using knowledge representation techniques, like SKOS (Simple Knowledge Organization System). The system has been implemented using the SKOS editor tool ThManager which is useful to structure a detailed data model related to parameter estimation. This formalization allows the unambiguous definition of the parameter estimation problem. Furthermore in this way the systems biology knowledge becomes machine understandable.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
