Umbria-Marches calcareous Apennines secondary grasslands, distributed between 600 and 2,200-2,300 m asl, are floristically very rich. In fact they contain about the 20% of floristic species known in Marche’s territory. This study is aimed to analyze the variation of floristic richness and composition throughout bioclimatic belts. To achieve this aim 446 phytosociological relevés, referred to more than 30 syntaxa, located between Catria and Sibillini massifs, were collected. Among these relevés a random sample was selected for each vegetational community studied in each mountain group. The results of data processing show the existence of floristic richness variation through an altitudinal gradient, related to the different values of winter cold stress and summer drought stress.
