The deflection angle due to classical scattering by a central and non-Coulombic repulsive potential is calculated as a function of the energy and orbital angular momentum of the incident particle. It is shown that the Thomson atomic model could not account for the observed large scattering angles of moderately energetic α particles, whereas scattering of low-energy particles up to angles of 180° can be predicted by the model.

Abstract
The deflection angle due to classical scattering by a central and non-Coulombic repulsive potential is calculated as a function of the energy and orbital angular momentum of the incident particle. It is shown that the Thomson atomic model could not account for the observed large scattering angles of moderately energetic α particles, whereas scattering of low-energy particles up to angles of 180° can be predicted by the model.File in questo prodotto:
