Two turbidite series were identified in the "Nocara Flysch". The uppermost sequence was named "Nocara Conglomerates" and the lowermost "Colle Cappella Sandstones". Biostratigraphic analyses of the planktonic Foram- inifera show that the Colle Cappella Sandstones are Middle to Upper Eocene in age, and the Nocara Con- glomerates are Serravallian. Based on structural relationships we suggest that the lower sequence can be interpreted as a terrigenous series of the Sicilide Basin, in sedimentary continuity on the Sant'Arcangelo Member. The upper sequence can be interpreted as deposited in the Irpinian Basin and can be correlated to the coeval Gorgoglione Flysch.
