On the basis of the replies to a questionnaire the problem of the increase in the birth and methods of family planning acceptable to the couple which might be used to limit it were studied. The enquiry showed considerable gaps in the knowledge of those interviewed about demographic phenomena in the world and in Italy and also a lack knowledge concerning the methods which might be used to control, should the need arise, the progressively undisciplined increase in the population, which, as we saw in the introduction, creates serious problems in the emerging coutries and not only there. We point out of 136 students who took part in the enquiry only a very small number proved to have even the slightest idea of the problems and methods of contraception.
