Complete shake-up photoelectron spectra associated with the 1s Na core level excitations have been measured for NaF, NaCl, NaBr, and Na2SO4 by using a laboratory AlKalpha source. Evident shake-up multiplets, split by the hole-hole exchange interaction, due to both the Na+ [1s2p]3p and [1s2s]3s atomic-like configurations are observed. Significative differences among the spectra indicate chemical sensitivity of these features to the environment of the Na atoms even among these very similar ionic compounds.

Abstract
Complete shake-up photoelectron spectra associated with the 1s Na core level excitations have been measured for NaF, NaCl, NaBr, and Na2SO4 by using a laboratory AlKalpha source. Evident shake-up multiplets, split by the hole-hole exchange interaction, due to both the Na+ [1s2p]3p and [1s2s]3s atomic-like configurations are observed. Significative differences among the spectra indicate chemical sensitivity of these features to the environment of the Na atoms even among these very similar ionic compounds.File in questo prodotto:
