The morphology and ultrastructure of the horse gustatory glands (von Ebner’s glands) have been studied. The glands are tubulo-alveolar in structure and have an abbreviated duct system. The secretory cells, which lack basal folds, show a large nucleus, abundant RER cisternae and a well developed Golgi apparatus. They also contain numerous granules with a complex substructure. The glandular cells are classified as seromucous on the basis of the secretory granules’ ultrastructure and histochemical characteristics. No striated ducts are present.

Abstract
The morphology and ultrastructure of the horse gustatory glands (von Ebner’s glands) have been studied. The glands are tubulo-alveolar in structure and have an abbreviated duct system. The secretory cells, which lack basal folds, show a large nucleus, abundant RER cisternae and a well developed Golgi apparatus. They also contain numerous granules with a complex substructure. The glandular cells are classified as seromucous on the basis of the secretory granules’ ultrastructure and histochemical characteristics. No striated ducts are present.File in questo prodotto:
