The kinetics of tramadol, intravenously administered at doses of 2,5 and 5 mg/kg-1, was investigated in 5 race-horses. The kinetic behaviour of tramadol and its metabolite (M1) was described by a bi-compartimental and a non-compartimental model, respectively. The administration of the higher dose showed slight adverse reactions, like tremors and restlessness. On the basis of the clinical observations, the kinetic data and what reported in literature for man and other animal species, the dose of 2,5 mg/kg-1 could be considered the more appropriate for the clinical use of tramadol.

Abstract
The kinetics of tramadol, intravenously administered at doses of 2,5 and 5 mg/kg-1, was investigated in 5 race-horses. The kinetic behaviour of tramadol and its metabolite (M1) was described by a bi-compartimental and a non-compartimental model, respectively. The administration of the higher dose showed slight adverse reactions, like tremors and restlessness. On the basis of the clinical observations, the kinetic data and what reported in literature for man and other animal species, the dose of 2,5 mg/kg-1 could be considered the more appropriate for the clinical use of tramadol.File in questo prodotto:
