We outline some recent approaches relying on cluster expansion techniques to study transfer operators associated to coupled maps lattices. These are infinite dimensional dynamical systems involving interactions between continuous state elements which evolve in discrete time and are distributed on a lattice. Existence of SRB measures for such systems is referred to as space-time chaos.
