Abstract
We illustrate briefly the origin of the quantum aspects that one encounters in nonlinear optical patterns. We focus our attention on the signal field generated by quantum fluctuations in a degenerate optical parametric oscillator (OPO) below threshold. The spatial correlation of the intensity fluctuations in the far field exhibits a clear signature of the quantum nature of the fluctuations and spatial evidence of the twin photon emission in the OPO. We express these concepts in terms of a) squeezing in the difference between the intensities measured by two detectors symmetrically located with respect to the axis of the system and b) an appropriately formulated EPR paradox.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
