Naturalis Defensionis et Artificiales Muros nella Struttura Difensiva della Città di Ascoli Piceno

A defensive structure has been present as long as the city of Ascoli Piceno has existed. On pre-existing Picene structures were grafted the city walls of the Roman and medieval phases. Numerous restorations and additions have been made over the centuries. The investigation has made it possible to define in detail the construction phases of the entire wall circuit and its relationship to the city and the territory.

Fin da quando esiste la città di Ascoli Piceno si riscontra la presenza di una struttura difensiva. Oltre alle caratteristiche intrinseche, le mura danno origine ad ambienti singolari e rappresentativi di una vicenda urbana particolarmente stratificata. Nella forma compiuta, ossia quella romana su cui s’innesta la fase medievale, con integrazioni e restauri condotti fino al XVIII secolo, la struttura difensiva appare naturalmente conformata e artificialmente costruita.
