The paper deals with slave traders and immigration in the Roman empire. The a. takes into consideration also the question of uncoerced or voluntary slavery. Some notes address particularly the slave traders mango and venaliciarius (sources especially examined: Ulp. 1 ad ed. aed. cur. D. 21.1.31.21; Ulp. 3 de cens. D. 50.15.4.5; Afr. 3 quaest. D. 50.16.207; Sen. de ben. 4.13.3). Finally, there are some considerations about the historiography on the number of slave immigrants in Rome and on mobility during the age of imperialism (sources especially examined: Gai 1.42 [= Inst. 1.7]-43; Tac. ann. 14.42-45; Apul. apol. 93).
