In this study a modular housing system is presented. The module house is specifically designed to support smart technologies, zero energy costs and high environmental comfort levels for the independent living and the well being of older adults. Accord-ing to the principles of active ambient living, which aims to enhance and improve living conditions for older people (Spadolini, 2013; AA.VV., 2012), an experimental module house is proposed. The module house is a dry wooden modular construc-tive system, able to provide: adaptable indoor spaces, high energy performances, full energy autonomy and a easily manageable framework for smart devices, smart furniture and sensors. The achievement of a real and effective ambient assisted living, using advanced technological solutions to make active, safe and inclusive indoor environments, need relevant architectures and building components which can be integrated and can contain inside any possible system. The module house represents an experimental building design research, in which energy, environmental, technological and func-tional requirements for assisted living of older adults are taken into account. The design of this experimental module house is developed with a detailed level, with plan, fronts and sections, construction details, energy simulations, environmental analysis, plant designs, adaptability and flexibility layouts, installation layouts of smart objects, devices and ITC technologies (Sanchez, 2017; Mazziotta, 2016), also considering the possibility to reduce time and costs of construction and manage-ment. Thanks to the modular approach and the fast assembly process, the module house can be moved, modified or replicated to obtain little residential districts, con-stantly updatable. Results of the analysis, simulations and functional controls show the effectiveness of the modular housing system as experimental module house for older people.
