The valuation of the patent premium protection is analysed against trademarking, when the patentee combines multiple IP strategies regarding the same innovative project. We find that a pairing strategy based on the combination of patenting and trademarking doubles patent valuation. This result is valid after having taken into the account several patentee demographic characteristics and a full-fledged set of patent value indicators regarding breadth and technology potential, prior art and patent background, and filing and procedural aspects of a patent. Furthermore, the analysis of the IP usage mode suggests some interesting insights on how trademarking enhances patent valuation.

Abstract
The valuation of the patent premium protection is analysed against trademarking, when the patentee combines multiple IP strategies regarding the same innovative project. We find that a pairing strategy based on the combination of patenting and trademarking doubles patent valuation. This result is valid after having taken into the account several patentee demographic characteristics and a full-fledged set of patent value indicators regarding breadth and technology potential, prior art and patent background, and filing and procedural aspects of a patent. Furthermore, the analysis of the IP usage mode suggests some interesting insights on how trademarking enhances patent valuation.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
