The construction of new palace began in 1912 with the demolition of the convent of S. Onofrio, purchased from the municipality by the Bank board, and went for three years. The palace's history, from the digging of the foundations to the laying of the roof covering, is summarized here with the support of contemporary documents and pictures, providing interesting information on the organization of the building site, the traditional and modern techniques and materials, the specialized labour employed, as well as the times and coats involved; in other words, the making of one of the city's most prominent landmarks.
