The submitted paper investigates Steven Holl’s sketchbooks as places of memory and research, where drawing is the maieutic tool to process the disparate studies (phisics, literature, music, maths…) examined by the architect, while defining his architectural poetry . The essay analyses some drawings’ features (i.e. figure-ground relationship), to reveal significations of design concepts, regarding both theoretical and practical aspects . Holl’s watercoloured sketches are worldwide well known drawings because they are not only beautiful images to enrich publications about his work, but effective communication tools which allow the transmission of contents (from the architect to his collaborators), for later processing design stages. Thereby, the educational goal is to demonstrate the current relevance and effectiveness of analogical language in IT epoch .

Abstract
Thereby, the educational goal is to demonstrate the current relevance and effectiveness of analogical language in IT epoch .I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
