Steel and concrete composite structures are widely used in building construction in seismic areas while steel and concrete hybrid solutions are less diffused and require further investigation. The two hybrid systems considered in the INNO-HYCO project (INNOvative HYbrid and COmposite steel-concrete structural solutions for building in seismic area), namely hybrid coupled shear walls and steel frames with reinforced concrete infill walls, suffer from weaknesses due to the damage localization and the complexity of connections. Thus, in order to overcome such limitations, innovative steel and reinforced concrete hybrid systems for the construction of feasible and easy repairable earthquake-resistant buildings were developed within the INNO-HYCO project. The proposed solutions are characterized by effective dissipative mechanisms and excellent serviceability performance. In the present proceedings, a general overview of the main results of the INNO-HYCO project is presented, while all the details about the project can be found in the Final Report that will be published by the European Commission. Abstract

Support for this research from the European Commission, Research Fund for Coal and Steel, Steel Technical Group TGS 8 (RFSR-CT-2010-00025), is gratefully acknowledged.
