Photography and computer graphics ensure some buildings become "stars" and live a double life. Computer generated architecture images can reasonably be regarded as final drawings of the design project, as well as one of the possible photographs:"the norm for the way things appear to us, thereby changing the very idea of reality and of realism” (Sontag 1977). Infact, the final project is not merely designed: it is captured long before its realization. Renderings are pictures, with all the expressive potential of photography. The submitted article investigates the existence of a philological continuity between contemporary perspectives made with photorealistic three-dimensional CG techniques and the analogical ones that use photography for the design process. The goal is not to search for ways to construct architectural objects, but rather to use potential capability of digital design to realize the assertiveness of the image.
