This paper presents a study on the effectiveness of different casting sequences to control the cracking in continuous composite bridges. In the first part of the paper, an overview on the modeling aspects of termal shrinkage and tensile creep of the concrete is reported, and a numerical procedure for the structural analysis is described. In the second part, the results of analyses performed on study cases of continuous composite bridge decks are shown. The results obtained by means of continuous slab casting from one end of the bridge to the other are compared with those given by optimised sequential castings and the enhanced ability of the latter to control the cracking tendency during construction has been highlighted.

Abstract
This paper presents a study on the effectiveness of different casting sequences to control the cracking in continuous composite bridges. In the first part of the paper, an overview on the modeling aspects of termal shrinkage and tensile creep of the concrete is reported, and a numerical procedure for the structural analysis is described. In the second part, the results of analyses performed on study cases of continuous composite bridge decks are shown. The results obtained by means of continuous slab casting from one end of the bridge to the other are compared with those given by optimised sequential castings and the enhanced ability of the latter to control the cracking tendency during construction has been highlighted.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
