With only a few discontinuities, the Adriatic coast offer as a specific. cadence and in many cases, diffuse sequence of industrial sites; sites that, over time, have inevitably played an important role in the System of settlement in urban areas. The relation to these sites as obstacles, as restrictions, as difficult presences with respect to residential and tourist vocations, was and remains conditioned by the "quantity" of areas that these sites have bordered and continue to border. These areas, contiguous or connected to important infrastructures, have excluded urban continuities of uses other than those tied to production without, from the outset or even after a reasonable amount of time, leading to the development of truly autonomous industrial areas, such as those that, form a certain moment onwards, were developed in the areas orthogonal to the coast line. In substance, the choice of areas, beyond functional, commercial and administrative opportunities and their use as local attractors, has depended on the advantages presented by these territories, such as the state road or the rail line.
