The finite element analysis of composite beams permits obtaining useful information on structural behavior but requires an efficient and reliable element that is able to capture the salient features. In this paper the authors illustrate some of the problems that affect displacement-based elements. In order to obtain more efficient solutions, a mixed formulation is considered and very simple mixed elements are proposed and compared.
