The finite element analysis of steel-concrete composite bridges makes it possible to obtain useful information on structural behaviour but requires an efficient and reliable element that is able to capture the salient features of composite beam with weak shear connection. In this paper the authors recall the displacement formulation and illustrate some problems that affect displacement based elements. In order to obtain more efficient solutions, a mixed formulation is considered starting from the displacement-strain Hellinger-Reissner functional. Finally, a very simple mixed element is proposed and compared to an equivalent displacement element.

Abstract
The finite element analysis of steel-concrete composite bridges makes it possible to obtain useful information on structural behaviour but requires an efficient and reliable element that is able to capture the salient features of composite beam with weak shear connection. In this paper the authors recall the displacement formulation and illustrate some problems that affect displacement based elements. In order to obtain more efficient solutions, a mixed formulation is considered starting from the displacement-strain Hellinger-Reissner functional. Finally, a very simple mixed element is proposed and compared to an equivalent displacement element.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
