This paper presents a numerical model, based on the domain decomposition technique, for the analysis of the kinematic interaction of pile groups and for the evaluation of the foundation impedances and the foundation input motion which may be used in studying generic spatial superstructures. A finite element model is considered for the pile group and the soil is assumed to be a Winkler-type medium. The soil-pile interaction is included by considering dynamic impedances according to simplified available theories. Comparisons with data available in the literature show the potential of the model in catching both the static and dynamic behaviour of the foundation: at zero frequency the model can provide the static group efficiency factors; at high frequencies, for large pile spacing-diameter ratio, typical interference phenomena are caught.

Abstract
This paper presents a numerical model, based on the domain decomposition technique, for the analysis of the kinematic interaction of pile groups and for the evaluation of the foundation impedances and the foundation input motion which may be used in studying generic spatial superstructures. A finite element model is considered for the pile group and the soil is assumed to be a Winkler-type medium. The soil-pile interaction is included by considering dynamic impedances according to simplified available theories. Comparisons with data available in the literature show the potential of the model in catching both the static and dynamic behaviour of the foundation: at zero frequency the model can provide the static group efficiency factors; at high frequencies, for large pile spacing-diameter ratio, typical interference phenomena are caught.I documenti in IRIS sono protetti da copyright e tutti i diritti sono riservati, salvo diversa indicazione.
