The present work intends to investigate the possibility of describing the complex non-linear behaviour of High Damping Rubbers (HDRs) by means of linear systems. Two different linear equivalent systems are deduced, one from the stable response and the other from the transient response, that is strongly influenced by the Mullins effect. The responses provided by linear and nonlinear models are used for studying the response of different systems under seismic excitations, in order to compare the solutions and to evaluate the ability of linear models in furnishing upper and lower bounds of maximum displacements and forces.

Abstract
The present work intends to investigate the possibility of describing the complex non-linear behaviour of High Damping Rubbers (HDRs) by means of linear systems. Two different linear equivalent systems are deduced, one from the stable response and the other from the transient response, that is strongly influenced by the Mullins effect. The responses provided by linear and nonlinear models are used for studying the response of different systems under seismic excitations, in order to compare the solutions and to evaluate the ability of linear models in furnishing upper and lower bounds of maximum displacements and forces.File in questo prodotto:
