This paper presents a study on the effectiveness of the different casting sequences to control the cracking in continuous composite bridges. After a brief description of the numerical procedure adopted in the analyses, the results obtained for different span lengths are reported. In particular, the results obtained by means of continuous slab casting from one end of the bridge to the other are compared with those given by optimised sequential castings and the enhanced ability of the latter to control the cracking tendency during construction has been highlighted.

Abstract

This paper presents a study on the effectiveness of the different casting sequences to control the cracking in continuous composite bridges. After a brief description of the numerical procedure adopted in the analyses, the results obtained for different span lengths are reported. In particular, the results obtained by means of continuous slab casting from one end of the bridge to the other are compared with those given by optimised sequential castings and the enhanced ability of the latter to control the cracking tendency during construction has been highlighted.
