Abstract

Since iti is possible that additional stressors may exacerbate the agonistic related stress response in athletic horses, we investigated and compared the endocrine-metabolic changes elicited by training and sporting competition in trotters. A group of 8 trotters were randomly subjected to two different treatments: a standard training and a sporting competition. Higher plasma beta-endorphin , cortisol, PCV, total proteins, LDH and Ca concentration were recorded after competition (P<0.001). Within 12o minall parameters returned within their normal reest values.
