Abstract

Group certification (G.C.) is a third-party quality assurance system that, in the geographic areas where it has been adopted, has made it easier for smallholders to achieve organic certification, thereby reducing costs and simplifying certification requirements in the process. Its introduction in the European organic farming regime through the issue of a new regulation seems coherent with current global challenges, objectives and general aims which this sector will have to face and strive to accomplish in the coming years.
