This Survey is focused on the transformation of the imino functionality in the aminogroup by a Mannich reaction, whether the target of the synthesis is a beta-amino carbonyl compound or a more complex structure. Three main contexts are taken in exam with respect to the transformation of imines: the synthesis and elaboration of beta-amino carbonyl compounds, the vinylogous Mannich reaction and Mannich reaction involved in cascade reaction.
