The Cu L3 edge X-ray Absorption Spectra (XAS) and the X-ray Photoemission Spectra (XPS) of YBa2Cu3O6.5+x as function of oxygen content 0<×<0.5 have been measured. The weight of the 3d9L configuration characteristic of superconducting samples (i.e. of the charge carriers in the metallic and superconducting phase) increases with x following the change of Tc. The electronic structure of the divalent YBa2Cu3O6.5 (considered to be the electronic substrate for charge carriers induced by further oxidation) has been obtained.
