A lake, whose waters are planned to be used as drinkable water, was studied during a three year period and the results are reported here. The study was performed first on the four tributary streams, using chemi¬cal and biological parameters. Subsequently the Authors investigated the chemical and trophic characteristics of the reservoir, taking into special consideration the termal stratification of the waters. The results evidenced a satisfactory quality level of 3 out of 4 tributary streams and of the waters of the reservoir. Thermal stratification induces, in the lower stratus, a significant hypoxia responsible for the modification of some chemical parameters. The trophic state of the reservoir is actually classifiable as oligo-meso trophic. The validity 01' the specific italian low (DPR 515/82), which indicates the characteristics of surface waters to be used as drinking water resource, is discussed on the basis of the results of the study.
