Production of reactive oxygen species is a normal process in the life of aerobic organism. Under physiological conditions, these deleterious species are remove effectively by the cellular antioxidant systems. Submaximal physical exercise could induce an unbalanced of redox status and a reduction of immune defences. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the oxidative status (glutathione peroxidase and superoxide dismutase activities: GSHpX and SOD, respectively; and reactive oxigen metabolites: ROM's) of some horses competing in two endurance races (over the same distance, but under different environmental condition) and to investigate the lysozyme and Zn concentrations connected to the oxidative stress. The different environmental condition, during the race, induced significant variations of GHSpX (P<0.01), whereas no significant differences were found for SOD activity and ROM's, Lysozyme and Zn concentrations.
